Terbium oxide
Tb₄O₇ for phosphors, magnetic materials and special ceramics

Terbium oxide is a mixed rare earth oxide with the chemical formula Tb₄O₇. It appears as a black to dark brown powder and combines the oxidation states Tb(III) and Tb(IV). In industry, it is used in particular for phosphor-based phosphors, optoelectronic materials and high-performance magnetic materials. PROJECTOR supplies terbium oxide in various purities - ready for use in research, manufacturing and high-tech applications.
Typical areas of application:
Terbium oxide is an essential component in the production of phosphors, particularly for green phosphors in color televisions, LEDs and fluorescent tubes. As a doping agent, it also improves the magnetic properties of ferrites and is used for certain optical glasses. In laser material development, it is being tested for special applications, for example in combination with oxides such as yttrium or gadolinium oxide.
Typical areas of application:
- Green-emitting phosphors for phosphors
- Doping of magnetic ceramics and ferrites
- Optical materials and glasses
- Specialty ceramics and research in the laser sector

Frequently asked questions about terbium oxide:
What is terbium oxide most commonly used for?
How is terbium oxide handled?
Terbium oxide is chemically stable as a fine powder, but should be stored dry and in the absence of air as it is hygroscopic.
Are there different oxide forms of terbium?
Yes – the most common product is Tb₄O₇ (mixed valent). Tb₂O₃ is also available, but less common in industrial use.
